Noblesville has one of the clearest splits in the metro: a historic courthouse square with century-old homes, and rings of newer subdivisions built out around it. We quote both regularly. Platted in January 1823 by William Conner and Josiah Polk, and almost certainly named for James Noble, Indiana's first United States senator. A quieter story has survived alongside it — that Polk named the town for Lavina Noble, the woman he was engaged to.
