How Fishers began
William Conner was trading along the White River here as early as 1802, but the town proper began in June 1872, when Salathiel Fisher divided his land into lots beside a stop on the Peru & Indianapolis Railroad. It was Fishers Switch, then Fishers Station, and simply Fishers from 1908 — still a village of 388 people as late as 1960.
